To get to Kavieng from Port Moresby was an all day trip by plane, with stops/changes in Lae, Madang, Wewok, and the island of Manus.

From Kavieng, the S/V Telite, owned and crewed by Bob and Dinah Halstead, took us exploring. She served as research, dive headquarters, and home as we cruised the waters sorrounding the islands of New Hanover, New Ireland and Rabaul. We were looking for a suitable site to study fish of the Family Malacanthidae.
