Our Years in Underwater Research
1985-2001

Mary and I were SCUBA certified by the time we retired from the Air Force in 1984.

The first thing we did was schedule a series of dive trips . Initially we visited the Caribbean, but then started moving further afield. By 1986 we had been to the Red Sea, Fiji, and Rowley Shoals, Western Australia.

We met Doctor Eugenie Clark ,"The Shark Lady", Professor Emeritus at The University of Maryland, on a dive trip to the Red Sea in 1985. We learned that she used volunteers in her work. In 1987 we went on our first field trip with her to the Exumas, and so began our long and serious association with her. With time, we got involved in all aspects of the work, including co-authoring a number of papers, which where published in well known Journals.

Mary and John aboard the S/V Fantasea, near Sharm el Sheik, Egypt, were we often assisted the crew.
